Wallpaper & wall preparation
A wallcovering scheme begins with the wall beneath it. Resolve the surface, material and layout together so the selected paper has a clearly defined place in the room.
Discuss your project
Assess the wall and the existing covering
Tell us whether the wall is bare, painted or already papered. Include visible defects and any recent plasterwork. Distinguish removal, preparation and lining from hanging the decorative covering. If the substrate cannot be understood until the old paper is removed, record that uncertainty in the scope and agree how the next decision will be made.
Supply the product before settling the quantity
Provide the manufacturer, collection and product reference, together with its hanging instructions. The wall dimensions, roll dimensions and pattern repeat belong in the same calculation. Clarify who will order the material and check batch details. Do not treat a room’s floor area as enough information for a wallcovering allowance.
Decide where the pattern should sit
Discuss the principal view into the room and how the pattern will meet doors, windows, corners and fitted joinery. Show any alcoves or chimney breast in the photographs. Record the intended layout and the adjoining painted finishes before the work begins; those decisions can change how the room reads even when the paper itself stays the same.
Bring the brief together
Send photographs, approximate wall measurements and the chosen product if available. Mention furniture, occupancy and the access route. Include any need to decorate the ceiling or woodwork as separate elements. The quotation can then distinguish preparation, paper supply, hanging and associated painting instead of treating them as one unspecified room package.
